Happy Apollo 50

Happy Apollo 50! 20 July 1969 Where were you when man first landed on the Moon? Neil Armstrong’s “A small step for a man, one giant leap for mankind” First Mission: Apollo 11 Neil Armstrong Edwin “Buzz” Aldrin Michael Collins Launch - July 16, 1969 Lunar Landing – July 20, 1969 Splashdown – July 24, 1969 Lunar Module call sign – Eagle You probably heard them said, “Eagle has landed." Neil Armstrong stepped on the land of the moon at around 10:00 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time. Buzz Aldrin joined him 15 minutes later. Michael Collins was orbiting the Moon. Neil and Buzz set up an American Flag on the Moon as soon as they stepped off the module “Eagle”. The flag was later blown over when Eagle took off. Interesting Facts: Gravity on the Moon Astronaut Dave Scott dropped a geological hammer and a falcon feather at the same time to show they would land together though one was heavier than the other. This experiment would be impossible on Earth, where air resistance would slow down the feather more than the hammer because of the feather's shape. Lunar Law From its Office for Outer Space Affairs in Vienna, the United Nations (UN) promotes cooperation between countries on the Moon and in outer space. No one owns the Moon or the land on it. Neither countries nor individuals can make territorial claims, though some businesses offer to “sell” land on the Moon. Ice Cream Day

National Ice Cream Day

3rd Sunday in July every year, July 20th

On July 23, 1904, Charles E. Minches of St. Louis, Missouri, came up with the idea of filling pastry one with two scoops of ice cream, thereby inventing the ice cream cone. The walk away cone made its debut later that year at the St. Louis’s World Fair.

Cheer UP

July 11th is National
Cheer Up the Lonely Day

Cheer Up the Lonely Day is an opportunity to make a lonely person happy.  Any time you can make someone happy, you've done a good thing, and should be proud of yourself.

Lonely people have few friends and loved ones  They may have lost loved ones over the years.  They may be elderly.  They see people on an infrequent basis.

Spend some time today cheering up lonely people.  It's easy to do…just spend some time with them.  When you visit, bring happy things to talk about.  Keep the conversation upbeat, and lively.  When you leave, give a big hug and let them know you enjoyed the stay. Sending cards or making a phone call is okay, only if they live too far away to visit.  What a lonely person really needs, is face to face time with other people.

"Cheerfulness prepares a glorious mind for all the noblest acts."
 ~~ St. Elizabeth Ann Seton

“Something to remember on Cheer Up The Lonely day: Just by looking at someone with a big grin you can make their day. Blessed Mother Teresa used to talk about a ministry of presence. You can be the hands and feet and smile of Jesus for someone today." –  Unknown

“…God loves a cheerful giver.” - 2 Corinthians 9:
