Summer Solstice

Are you ready for the summer?

Summer Solstice, sometimes known as Midsummer, occurs in the middle of June. It is a celebration of the longest day of the year and the beginning of Summer.

Notice: teacups and saucers. Too hot to drink!

Treat Sunburn Like a Dermatoligist?
by Virginia Sole-Smile
1. Make a cooling compress: Steep two chamomile tea bags in 8 ounces of hot water for 15 minutes and refrigerate until cool. Saturate a washcloth and apply it to your burn for 10 to 15 minutes.
2. Moisten your skin with aloe vera gel or a moisturizer containing soy or oatmeal-both of which are cooling. If yur burn is really painful to the touch, try an OTC cortisone cream.
3. Take cool, short showers and moisturize regularly until the burn fades (about a week). And remember to use sunblock! If you've burned once, it means you're prone to burning-not to building a base tan.

Sun Safety

It's natural to enjoy all kinds of outdoor activities! The Sun Safety Alliance (SSA) encourages you to be safe by following these sun-safety tips year-round to help prevent serious skin damage—and possibly skin cancer—later

• Keep in mind the sun is strongest between 10 am and 4 pm.
• Wear clothing that's dark and tightly woven.
• Wear a wide-brimmed hat and sunglasses.
• Remember that UV rays bounce off sand, snow, concrete, and water.
• Do not use sun tanning beds.
• Keep very young children (6 months or less) out of the sun.
• Sunscreens need to be applied liberally and evenly over all exposed areas.
• Apply a sunscreen with a SPF of 15 or higher whenever you're outdoors.

To achieve adequate UV protection you should use products that provide broad spectrum protection, which means protection against both UVB and UVA rays. For broad spectrum protection, look for products that provide an SPF of at least 15 and contain ingredients like Avobenzone (Parsol 1789) or zinc oxide.

• For children, the SSA recommends sunscreen with an SPF 30 or higher.
• Apply sunscreen before going outdoors and reapply often.
• Reapply sunscreen after swimming, perspiring, and toweling off.
• Provide complete sunscreen coverage for your skin (including neck, ears and lips!).
• For people with thin or thinning hair, apply sunscreen to the scalp as well.
And remember stay in the shade whenever possible

Time Saving Timeline

1784 – Benjamin Franklin, when serving a U.S. minister to France, wrote an article recommending earlier opening and closing of shops to save the cost of lighting.

1883 – Instituted in the U.S. and Canada by the railroads.

1907 – In England, William Willett began to urge the adoption of daylight saving time.
WWI – During World War I the plan was adopted in England, Germany, France, and many other countries.

March 19, 1918 – Established in U.S. Law by the Act of March 19, 1918, sometimes called the Standard Time Act. The act also established daylight saving time, a contentious idea.

Feb. 9, 1942 to Sept. 20, 1945 – In World War II, national daylight saving time was re-established by law on a year-round basis. After the war, its use varied among states and localities.

1966 – The Uniform Time Act of 1966 provided standardization in the dates of beginning and end of daylight time in the U.S. but allowed for local exemptions from its observance. The act provided that daylight time begins on the last Sunday in April and end on the last Sunday in October, with the changeover to occur at 2 a.m. local time.

1973-74 – National year-round daylight saving time was adopted as a fuel-saving measure during the energy crisis of the winter.

Late 1974 – Standard time was reinstituted for the winter period.

1987 – Federal legislation fixed the period of daylight saving time in the United States as the first Sunday in April to the last Sunday in October.

2007 – Under the Energy Policy Act of 2005, it is extended from the second Sunday in March to the first Sunday in November.

Of note: Arizona and Hawaii do not use daylight saving time.

Leaps for Joy

I often jump up and down for JOY! What about my heart? I have had a few moments like that. When God answered my prayers. When God healed a place in my heart I didn’t know was hurt. When God gave me strength to overcome my physical painful circumstance. When God gave me a song every morning. When God gave me a creative to design my first Artwork. (see the image) Frog who makes me smile. He point my heart to Jesus. My heart LEAPS for joy!!

Snowflake

YOU’RE LIKE A SNOWFLAKE

Snowflakes are incredibly beautiful
and upon close inspection, although
they are seem the same, all we
wonderfully unique.

God created snowflakes as
nature’s reminder to us, that,
Although in many ways
we are the same, we too are
incredibly Beautiful and Unique!

All snowflakes have six uniquely symmetrical arms.

No two snowflakes are alike just like people.

Each of us is special. There's no one else like us anywhere in the world. Even people who look alike, such as identical twins, are different inside. We're like snowflakes. Did you know that no two snowflakes are alike?

Just like the snowflakes, we're all different. We all have things that make us special.

DON'T EXPECT EVERYONE TO BE JUST LIKE YOU
No two humans have the same fingerprints and there are no two snowflakes alike.

Each Christian is like Jesus in the world. We are His legs, arms, eyes and ears, etc. Each one of us has a very important role to play in God's plan. If we were all alike, how could God gather all
His children back into His kingdom? Not all of us can be preachers, doctors, missionaries, gardeners, or teachers. God gave us each unique gifts and qualities and He intends for us to use the ones He gave us and no one else's.

You are uniquely you and no one else. Your qualities and gifts are no better or no less than your fellow brothers and sisters in the Lord.

Romans 12:3-8 - Because God has given me a special gift, I have something to say to everyone among you. Do not think you are better than you are. You must decide what you really are by the amount of faith God has given you. Each one of us has a body with many parts, and these parts all have different uses. In the same way, we are many, but in Christ we are all one body. Each one is a part of that body, and each part belongs to all the other parts. We all have different gifts, each of which came because of the grace God gave us. The person who has the gift of prophecy should use that gift in agreement with the faith. Anyone who has the gift of serving should serve. Anyone who has the gift of teaching should teach. Whoever has the gift of encouraging others should encourage. Whoever has the gift of giving to others should give freely. Anyone who has the gift of being a leader should try hard when he leads. Whoever has the gift of showing mercy to others should do so with joy.
